At the 50th Congress of the Nordic Ergonomic Society (25-28 August 2019), we will have the pleasure of presenting the OH'Seed approach, which makes it possible to better integrate occupational health into corporate strategy. The approach is detailed in the article and presentation below, also published in the conference proceedings.
A recent meta-study by the London School of Economics and Political Science provides economic data that is often missing for actors on the field. By measuring the correlation between workplace well-being, staff turnover, profitability, employee productivity and consumer loyalty, the authors observe:
It can be hypothesized that in professions that are often paced by machines, where lean management and six sigma have largely eliminated the sources of human variability in the productivity, the drop in performance is due more to quality defects and unplanned machine downtime: when at work, employees work at an imposed level of productivity. On the other hand, they are more often absent because work is difficult: the impact of his well-being is therefore visible on profitability, provided that HR costs are allocated at the level of each unit.
This last point shows us that productivity is not necessarily the most appropriate indicator to assess the return on investment of occupational health programs, even if it is obviously the easiest to document. Profitability, a broader concept that takes into account the impact on absenteeism and turnover, is also of greater interest to managers.
On 26.08.2019, Olivier Girard will speak at the 50th Conference of the Nordic Ergonomic Society. He will discuss the most macro level of our activities: how to realign occupational health and business strategies.
The presentation will cover the two main aspects of the OH'Seed approach:
After the conference, an article on these topics will be published by the organizers, to be downloaded from this website. Until then, you may wish to download the program of the conference.
Our method is distinctly global: we teach how to preserve and health our body by improving our posture and ergonomics at work as well as at home. Hence, both employers and employees are rewarded.
To share with you the advice underlying his success, Olivier Girard has written a posture manual for everybody and every day. Very illustrated and didactic, it describes a posture training road-map over 3 months. Each week, a daily goal and an exercise are suggested so that all themes of our daily life are discussed: how to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, relax, sleep, breathe, choose ergonomic furniture, etc.
